Rust Turned Back Into Gold

DhanDhai Dhaavat man bha-i-aa manooraa.
Chasing after worldly affairs, the mind has become corroded and rusty.
fir hovai kanchan bhaytai gur pooraa.
But meeting with the Perfect Guru, it is transmuted into gold once again.
aapay bakhas la-ay sukh paa-ay poorai sabad milaa-ee hay. ||4||
When the Lord Himself grants forgiveness, then peace is obtained; through the Perfect Word of the Shabad, one is united with Him. ||4||

In plain words

Chasing after this and that, a mind can grow dull and rusted, like an old iron gate.

But meet the perfect Guru, and the rust lifts, and the gold underneath shines out again.

When the One's forgiveness arrives, peace comes with it, and the Word makes you one with the One.

Even a rusted heart is still gold underneath, waiting to shine.
The deeper layer

The old image of iron turned to gold: the rust of chasing is not the whole story, for the gold was always underneath. Forgiveness lifts the rust and brings peace.

A Question to Sit With

When has someone forgiving you helped you feel new again?
