Sikhism·Raag Maaroo·Shabad 109
Verse 2 of 16

More Goodness Than I Could Ever Count

tayray gun bahutay mai ayk na jaataa.
Your Glorious Virtues are so many, Lord; I do not know even one.
aapay laa-ay la-ay jagjeevan daataa.
The Life of the world, the Great Giver, attaches us to himself.
aapay bakhsay day vadi-aa-ee gurmat ih man bheejai hay. ||2||
He Himself forgives, and bestows glorious greatness. Following the Guru's Teachings, this mind is delighted. ||2||

Translation by Dr. Sant Singh Khalsa

In plain words

Your goodnesses are so many, One, that I cannot grasp even one of them.

The life of the world, the Great Giver, draws us close.

It forgives, it lifts us up, and following the Guru's teaching, my mind fills with quiet delight.

The One's goodness is greater than anyone could ever count.
The deeper layer

Standing before the vastness of the One's virtues (gun), the heart is humble and glad at once. Forgiveness and lifting-up are the One's own doing.

A Question to Sit With

What is something so big or good that you cannot even count all of it?
