Verse 16 of 16

Watched Over by a Loving Flow

aapay vaykhai hukam chalaa-ay.
He Himself watches, and issues His Command.
apnaa bhaanaa aap karaa-ay.
He Himself inspires us to obey His Will.
naanak naam ratay bairaagee man tan rasnaa naam savaaree hay. ||16||7||
O Nanak, only those who are attuned to the Naam are detached; their minds, bodies and tongues are embellished with the Naam. ||16||7||

Translation by Dr. Sant Singh Khalsa

In plain words

The One quietly watches, and the whole flow of existence moves as it should.

That same One gently moves us to fall into step with it.

Nanak says, those who hold the Naam are light and free — mind, body, and speech all made beautiful by it.

Falling into step with the flow of life makes you light and free.
The deeper layer

Aapay vaykhai hukam chalaa-ay — the One watches and runs the hukam, the flow of existence. Bairaagee (detached) here means light and free, not cold. Naam colors man tan rasnaa — mind, body, and tongue alike.

A Question to Sit With

What is one way you could move with life instead of against it today?
