Maaroo, Third Mehl:
ਆਪੇ ਆਪੁ ਉਪਾਇ ਉਪੰਨਾ ॥
aapay aap upaa-ay upannaa.
He Himself created Himself, and came into being.
ਸਭ ਮਹਿ ਵਰਤੈ ਏਕੁ ਪਰਛੰਨਾ ॥
sabh meh vartai ayk parchhannaa.
The One Lord is pervading in all, remaining hidden.
ਸਭਨਾ ਸਾਰ ਕਰੇ ਜਗਜੀਵਨੁ ਜਿਨਿ ਅਪਣਾ ਆਪੁ ਪਛਾਤਾ ਹੇ ॥੧॥
sabhnaa saar karay jagjeevan jin apnaa aap pachhaataa hay. ||1||
The Lord, the Life of the world, takes care of all. Whoever knows his own self, realizes God. ||1||

The One brought itself into being, a wonder no one can fully picture.
It is present in everything, quietly, like breath you do not notice.
It cares for all that lives — and the one who comes to know their own self discovers it right there.
Knowing your own self is how you meet the hidden One.
Aapay aap upaa-ay upannaa — the One is self-created, uncaused; and sabh meh vartai ayk parchhannaa — present in all yet hidden. The turn at the end lies at the heart of the Sikh path: jin apnaa aap pachhaataa — knowing your own self is how you meet the One.
