Verse 2 of 16

The One Behind Every Name

jin barahmaa bisan mahays upaa-ay.
He who created Brahma, Vishnu and Shiva,
sir sir DhanDhai aapay laa-ay.
links each and every being to its tasks.
jis bhaavai tis aapay maylay jin gurmukh ayko jaataa hay. ||2||
He merges into Himself, whoever is pleasing to His Will. The Gurmukh knows the One Lord. ||2||

In plain words

The great powers people have named and honored across the ages — all of them come from the One.

Each being is given its own work to do.

And the heart turned toward the Guru sees, behind all the names, a single Oneness.

Behind every name people give the sacred stands one Oneness.
The deeper layer

Brahma, Vishnu and Mahesh (Shiva) come from the One, and every name points past itself to ayko, the One. Each being is sir sir dhandhai laa-ay, set to its own task.

A Question to Sit With

Why do you think people have so many different names for the sacred?
