Sikhism·Raag Maaroo·Shabad 111
Verse 11 of 16

Where the Word Makes a Home

manmukh kaar karay sabh dukh sabaa-ay.
All the deeds which the manmukh does bring pain - nothing but pain.
antar sabad naahee ki-o dar jaa-ay.
The Word of the Shabad is not within him; how can he go to the Court of the Lord?
gurmukh sabad vasai man saachaa sad sayvay sukh-daata hay. ||11||
The True Shabad dwells deep within the mind of the Gurmukh; he serves the Giver of peace forever. ||11||

In plain words

When we act without the Word inside us, even our efforts can leave us aching.

Without it, how would we find our way to the great Presence?

But when the true Word makes a home in the mind, we rest in the Giver of peace forever.

Actions land differently when the Word lives inside them.
The deeper layer

Antar sabad naahee — without the Word within, action brings dukh. Hollow doing stands against gurmukh sabad vasai man — the Word dwelling in the mind. Then service flows toward the sukh-daataa, the Giver of peace.

A Question to Sit With

What makes an action feel meaningful instead of empty to you?
