manmukh gi-aan kathay na ho-ee.
The self-willed manmukh speaks of spiritual wisdom, but does not understand.
fir fir aavai tha-ur na ko-ee.
Again and again, he comes into the world, but he finds no place of rest.
gurmukh gi-aan sadaa saalaahay jug jug ayko jaataa hay. ||10||
The Gurmukh is spiritually wise, and praises the Lord forever. Throughout each and every age, the Gurmukh knows the One Lord. ||10||
Translation by Dr. Sant Singh Khalsa
It is easy to talk about wisdom and still not feel it inside.
Then we keep wandering, restless, never quite arriving.
But the heart turned toward the Guru understands, and rests in the One through every age.
Talking about wisdom is not the same as tasting it.
Manmukh gi-aan kathay na ho-ee — one can speak spiritual wisdom without it landing. The manmukh (the self-directed heart) is any of us when we mistake talking for knowing. Once gi-aan is lived, the restlessness settles.
A Question to Sit With
