ਇਕਿ ਮੂਲਿ ਲਗੇ ਓਨੀ ਸੁਖੁ ਪਾਇਆ ॥
ik mool lagay onee sukh paa-i-aa.
Some are attached to the root - they find peace.
ਡਾਲੀ ਲਾਗੇ ਤਿਨੀ ਜਨਮੁ ਗਵਾਇਆ ॥
daalee laagay tinee janam gavaa-i-aa.
But those who are attached to the branches, waste their lives away uselessly.

Those humble beings, who chant the Name of the Ambrosial Lord, produce the ambrosial fruit. ||4||
Translation by Dr. Sant Singh Khalsa
Hold on to the root — the One at the center of everything — and you find peace.
Grab only at the branches, the surface things, and the days slip away with little to show.
But sweet words of the Name grow sweet fruit in a life.
Reach for the root, not just the branches.
A vivid tree image: mool (root) versus daalee (branches). Those rooted in the One find sukh; those clinging to outer branches lose the season. Amrit baataa — nectar-words — bear amrit fal, nectar-fruit: what you speak and hold shapes what your life grows.
A Question to Sit With
In your own life, what is the root and what are just the branches?
