Sikhism·Raag Maaroo·Shabad 111
Verse 8 of 16

The Treasure Hidden in the Body

ਕਾਇਆ ਕਮਲੁ ਹੈ ਕੁਮਲਾਣਾ ॥
kaa-i-aa kamal hai kumlaanaa.
The body-lotus is withering away,
ਮਨਮੁਖੁ ਸਬਦੁ ਨ ਬੁਝੈ ਇਆਣਾ ॥
manmukh sabad na bujhai i-aanaa.
but the ignorant, self-willed manmukh does not understand the Shabad.
ਗੁਰ ਪਰਸਾਦੀ ਕਾਇਆ ਖੋਜੇ ਪਾਏ ਜਗਜੀਵਨੁ ਦਾਤਾ ਹੇ ॥੮॥
gur parsaadee kaa-i-aa khojay paa-ay jagjeevan daataa hay. ||8||
By Guru's Grace, he searches his body, and finds the Great Giver, the Life of the world. ||8||

In plain words

This body is like a flower that opens for its short, beautiful season.

When we live only on the surface, we can miss what it holds.

But search within, and by the Guru's grace you find the Great Giver, the Life of the world, right inside you.

The body you have is where the treasure is hidden.
The deeper layer

Kaa-i-aa kamal — the body-lotus, which naturally fades. The flower is also an invitation: the same body is where, by gur parsaad, one finds jagjeevan daataa, the Giver who is the very Life of the world. The frailty of the body only underlines the treasure it carries.

A Question to Sit With

Where is a good place to look for something you have been searching outside for?
