ਆਪੇ ਸਾਜੇ ਸ੍ਰਿਸਟਿ ਉਪਾਏ ॥
aapay saajay sarisat upaa-ay.
He Himself fashions and creates the Universe.
ਵਿਰਲੇ ਕਉ ਗੁਰ ਸਬਦੁ ਬੁਝਾਏ ॥
virlay ka-o gur sabad bujhaa-ay.
He inspires a few to realize the Word of the Guru's Shabad.
ਸਤਿਗੁਰੁ ਸੇਵਹਿ ਸੇ ਜਨ ਸਾਚੇ ਕਾਟੇ ਜਮ ਕਾ ਫਾਹਾ ਹੇ ॥੫॥
satgur sayveh say jan saachay kaatay jam kaa faahaa hay. ||5||
Those humble beings who serve the True Guru are true. He snaps the noose of death from around their necks. ||5||

The One shapes and creates the whole universe.
It wakes a few hearts to the Guru's Word.
Those who serve the True Guru are true, and every fear that once tightened around them is gently loosened and set free.
Serving what is real loosens the fears that grip us.
Kaatay jam kaa faahaa — the noose is cut. Whatever has tightened around a person, fear included, is loosened for those who serve the satgur, the True Guru. Freedom from dread is the gift.
