bin satgur sayvay ghor anDhaaraa.
Without serving the True Guru, there is only pitch-black darkness.
bin sabdai ko-ay na paavai paaraa.
Without the Shabad, no one crosses over to the other side.
jo sabad raatay mahaa bairaagee so sach sabday laahaa hay. ||4||
Those who are imbued with the Shabad, are very detached. They earn the profit of the True Word of the Shabad. ||4||
Translation by Dr. Sant Singh Khalsa
Without serving the Guru, it is easy to feel lost in the dark.
The Word is the ferry that carries us across to the far shore.
Those colored by it grow light and free, and gather the truest gain of all.
The Word is a ferry across when you feel lost in the dark.
Bin sabdai ko-ay na paavai paaraa — without the Word, none cross over. The crossing reaches the paar, the far shore. The mahaa bairaagee, the deeply free, earn laahaa, the profit of the true Word. The darkness is the feeling of being lost.
