ਗੁਰ ਸੇਵਾ ਤੇ ਸਭੁ ਕਿਛੁ ਪਾਏ ॥
gur sayvaa tay sabh kichh paa-ay.
Serving the Guru, all things are obtained;
ਹਉਮੈ ਮੇਰਾ ਆਪੁ ਗਵਾਏ ॥
ha-umai mayraa aap gavaa-ay.
egotism, possessiveness and self-conceit are taken away.
ਆਪੇ ਕ੍ਰਿਪਾ ਕਰੇ ਸੁਖਦਾਤਾ ਗੁਰ ਕੈ ਸਬਦੇ ਸੋਹਾ ਹੇ ॥੯॥
aapay kirpaa karay sukh-daata gur kai sabday sohaa hay. ||9||
The Lord, the Giver of peace Himself grants His Grace; He exalts and adorns with the Word of the Guru's Shabad. ||9||

When you serve the Guru with a whole heart, everything comes to you.
The old habits of me and mine and look-at-me quietly fall away, and the Giver of peace lifts you up.
Serving with a full heart quietly melts the me-and-mine.
Service, sevaa, dissolves ego. The threefold knot of ego, me-and-mine, and self-conceit loosens, and peace is granted, not earned.
