Treasure This Precious Passing Day

an-din aarjaa chhijdee jaa-ay.
Night and day, the days of our lives wear away.
rain dinas du-ay saakhee aa-ay.
Night and day both bear witness to this loss.
manmukh anDh na chaytai moorhaa sir oopar kaal roo-aa-idaa. ||7||
The blind, foolish, self-willed manmukh is not aware of this; death is hovering over his head. ||7||

Translation by Dr. Sant Singh Khalsa

In plain words

Day by day, night by night, our time quietly passes, precious and never to be repeated.

When we forget this, the days slip by unnoticed; but remembering it wakes us up to treasure this one short, beautiful life.

Each day is precious and never repeats, so it is worth living fully.
The deeper layer

Night and day wear our lives away, and each day is a gift that does not come again. Forgetting this is curable by waking up.

A Question to Sit With

What is one small thing today you do not want to let slip by unnoticed?
