The Only Battle Worth Winning

anayk jatan karay indree vas na ho-ee.
Making countless efforts, sexual desire is not overcome.
kaam karoDh jalai sabh ko-ee.
Everyone is burning in the fires of sexuality and anger.
satgur sayvay man vas aavai man maaray maneh samaa-idaa. ||15||
Serving the True Guru, one brings his mind under control; conquering his mind, he merges in the Mind of God. ||15||

Translation by Dr. Sant Singh Khalsa

In plain words

No amount of just gritting your teeth fully tames the strong pulls of wanting and anger.

Serving the Guru, you learn to steady your own mind, and mastering your mind is the victory that lets you rest in the One.

Mastering your own mind is the victory worth winning.
The deeper layer

The only war worth winning is with one's own mind. Desire and anger are strong pulls, and serving the Guru brings them under control.

A Question to Sit With

What is one small way you can steady your mind when it pulls hard?
