ਆਵਣ ਜਾਣਾ ਸਬਦਿ ਨਿਵਾਰੇ ॥
aavan jaanaa sabad nivaaray.
Through the Shabad, one's comings and goings in reincarnation are ended.
ਸਚੁ ਨਾਮੁ ਰਖੈ ਉਰ ਧਾਰੇ ॥
sach naam rakhai ur Dhaaray.
He keeps the True Name enshrined within his heart.
ਗੁਰ ਕੈ ਸਬਦਿ ਮਰੈ ਮਨੁ ਮਾਰੇ ਹਉਮੈ ਜਾਇ ਸਮਾਇਆ ॥੫॥
gur kai sabad marai man maaray ha-umai jaa-ay samaa-i-aa. ||5||
He dies in the Word of the Guru's Shabad, and conquers his mind; stilling his egotism, he merges in the Lord. ||5||

Through the Guru's word, the coming and going of birth and death comes to an end. Such a one keeps the True Name in their heart.
Letting the small self die in the Guru's word, they master their own mind, and as the ego goes still they blend into the One.
The only battle worth winning is the one to master your own mind.
Coming and going (aavan-jaan) is ended through the Shabad. Man jeetai — mastering one's own mind — is the great victory of Maaroo: the inner battle, the only war worth winning. Stilling haumai leads to merging.
