Without the True Guru, no one finds permanence and stability.

The Shabad shines its Light deep within the self, and one dwells in peace; one's light merges into the Light. ||6||

In plain words

Coming and going, the people of the world are wasting away. Without the Guru, no one finds a place that stays steady.

When the Guru's word lights up inside you, you dwell in peace — and your little light melts into the great Light.

Your little light is not lost in the great Light; it is finally home.
The deeper layer

Jyot samaaye jyot — light merging into Light — is one of Gurbani's most luminous images for union: the individual flame blending back into the one fire. Without the Guru there is no lasting ground; with the Shabad, peace and merging.

A Question to Sit With

What makes you feel connected to something far larger than yourself?
