Translation by Dr. Sant Singh Khalsa

In plain words

Five thieves inside us — lust, anger, greed, clinging and pride — keep thinking of wrong and harmful things. This whole wide world is the show of clinging to Maya.

Serving the Guru, I am set free, and the five are brought under my control.

Serving the Guru brings the five thieves inside you under your control.
The deeper layer

The panch doot, the five thieves (kaam, krodh, lobh, moh, ahankaar), keep plotting what is wrong, and the whole spread of the world is attachment to Maya on display. Serving the Guru brings release, and the five come under one's own control — the inner battle of Maaroo, won from the inside.

A Question to Sit With

Which of the five pulls tugs at you most, and what steadies it?
