ਨਾ ਕਰਿ ਆਸ ਮੀਤ ਸੁਤ ਭਾਈ ॥
naa kar aas meet sut bhaa-ee.
Do not place your hopes in friends, children and siblings.
ਨਾ ਕਰਿ ਆਸ ਕਿਸੈ ਸਾਹ ਬਿਉਹਾਰ ਕੀ ਪਰਾਈ ॥
naa kar aas kisai saah bi-uhaar kee paraa-ee.
Do not place your hopes in kings or the business of others.
ਬਿਨੁ ਹਰਿ ਨਾਵੈ ਕੋ ਬੇਲੀ ਨਾਹੀ ਹਰਿ ਜਪੀਐ ਸਾਰੰਗਪਾਣੀ ਹੇ ॥੭॥
bin har naavai ko baylee naahee har japee-ai saarangpaanee hay. ||7||
Without the Lord's Name, no one will be your helper; so meditate on the Lord, the Lord of the world. ||7||

Do not put your hopes in friends, children or brothers. Do not put your hopes in kings, or in anyone else's business.
Without the Naam, no one will be your helper. So meditate on the One, the Lord of the world.
Put your hope in the Naam, the helper who stays by you.
Naa kar aas — do not set your hope there. Friends, children, brothers, kings and other people's dealings cannot be the place your hope rests. Baylee means the helper and friend who stays by you, and without the Naam there is none.
