The One Family Behind Everything

so pativantaa so Dhanvantaa.
He alone is honorable, and he alone is wealthy,
jis man vasi-aa har bhagvantaa.
within whose mind the Lord God abides.
maat pitaa sut banDhap bhaa-ee jin ih sarisat upaa-ee hay. ||5||
He alone is my mother, father, child, relative and sibling, who created this Universe. ||5||

Translation by Dr. Sant Singh Khalsa

In plain words

The one whose heart holds the One — that is the one who is honored, that is the one who is rich.

That One is like my mother and father, my child and my sibling all at once — the maker of this whole wide world.

Real wealth is holding the One who is family to everyone.
The deeper layer

True honor (pativantaa) and true wealth (dhanvantaa) are inner, not outer: they belong to whoever holds har bhagvantaa in the heart. The One is named as every relation — maat pitaa sut bandhap bhaaee — the complete family behind all families.

A Question to Sit With

What makes a person rich in a way money cannot?
