This Rare and Precious Human Day

lakh cha-oraaseeh jon sabaa-ee.
Out of all the 8.4 million species of beings,
maanas ka-o parabh dee-ee vadi-aa-ee.
God blessed mankind with glory.
is pa-orhee tay jo nar chookai so aa-ay jaa-ay dukh paa-idaa. ||2||
That human who misses this chance, shall suffer the pains of coming and going in reincarnation. ||2||

Translation by Dr. Sant Singh Khalsa

In plain words

Out of all the countless kinds of living things, the One gave people a special honor.

Whoever misses this chance keeps coming and going, again and again, and suffers.

Being born a person is a rare honor — a chance not to miss.
The deeper layer

Out of lakh chauraaseeh, the traditional 8.4 million forms of life, the human birth carries a special dignity — maanas ka-o vadi-aa-ee. A person who misses this chance goes round and round, coming and going, and it hurts. Put gently: a human life is a rare chance, and worth using well.

A Question to Sit With

What is one thing you don't want to waste this precious day on?
