Servant Nanak seeks the Sanctuary of Your Door, O Lord; if it is Your Will, please preserve his honor. ||16||1||5||
Translation by Dr. Sant Singh Khalsa
You Yourself are the Maker, the cause of all causes.
You made the world, and You hold up the whole earth.
Nanak says: I, Your servant, have come to the shelter of Your door. If it pleases You, keep my honor safe.
Take shelter at the One's door, and ask the One to keep your honor.
Too aapay kartaa kaaran karnaa — You are the Creator, the cause of causes. You made the universe, and Dharee sabh Dharnaa, hold up the whole earth. Jan naanak saran pa-i-aa — at the door, the servant takes shelter and asks that his laaj (honor) be kept. Everything ends where Maaroo always wants to land: in refuge.
A Question to Sit With
What would it feel like to set down everything you carry and simply rest?
