In the Sangat, the One Is Near

ਸੰਤ ਸਭਾ ਜਹ ਬੈਸਹਿ ਪ੍ਰਭ ਪਾਸੇ ॥

Where the Saints gather together and sit, God dwells close at hand.

They abide in bliss and joy, beholding the Lord's wondrous play.

They sing the Glories of the Lord, and the unstruck sound current of His Bani; O Nanak, His slaves remain conscious of Him. ||8||

Translation by Dr. Sant Singh Khalsa

In plain words

Where the Sangat sits together, the One is close by.

They live in joy and happiness, watching the One's wonderful play.

They sing the One's praises and the unstruck music of the Bani. Nanak says, the One's servants keep the One in mind.

Where the Sangat gathers, the One is close, and the music of the Bani hums.
The deeper layer

Where the sant sabhaa sits, the One is near. There is anand and mangal, bliss and joy, as if watching a wondrous play. They sing the One's praise, and the anhad Dhun, the unstruck sound, hums through the Bani; their hearts stay awake to the One.

The sant sabhaa is the Sangat — people gathered together to remember the One.

A Question to Sit With

Which group of people makes you feel closer to something good and true?
