Translation by Dr. Sant Singh Khalsa
I come with empty hands — draw me close and make me part of You.
Be kind, and give me some small, useful thing to do.
I wave the fan and grind the grain for the saints; washing their feet, I find peace.
In small, ordinary acts of service, a deep peace is found.
Coming empty-handed — nirgun, without any virtue of one's own — one asks to be merged in and linked to some humble task. Waving the fan, grinding corn, washing the feet of the saints — these plain acts of seva bring deep peace. Humble service carries its own dignity.
A Question to Sit With
What small, humble task leaves you feeling quietly peaceful?
