Sikhism·Raag Maaroo·Shabad 136
Verse 8 of 15

More Than Any Heaven

ਕਈ ਬੈਕੁੰਠ ਨਾਹੀ ਲਵੈ ਲਾਗੇ ॥
ka-ee baikunth naahee lavai laagay.
Myriads of heavens do not equal the Lord's Name.
ਮੁਕਤਿ ਬਪੁੜੀ ਭੀ ਗਿਆਨੀ ਤਿਆਗੇ ॥
mukat bapurhee bhee gi-aanee ti-aagay.
The spiritually wise forsake mere liberation.
ਏਕੰਕਾਰੁ ਸਤਿਗੁਰ ਤੇ ਪਾਈਐ ਹਉ ਬਲਿ ਬਲਿ ਗੁਰ ਦਰਸਾਇਣਾ ॥੮॥
aykankaar satgur tay paa-ee-ai ha-o bal bal gur darsaa-inaa. ||8||
The One Universal Creator Lord is found through the True Guru. I am a sacrifice, a sacrifice to the Blessed Vision of the Guru's Darshan. ||8||

Translation by Dr. Sant Singh Khalsa

In plain words

Countless heavens all together could not match the worth of the Name.

The wise let go even of liberation, as a small thing.

The One Creator is found through the True Guru, and I give my whole heart, again and again, to the sight of the Guru.

The wise let go even of liberation; the One Creator is found through the Guru.
The deeper layer

Myriad heavens do not equal the Name, and the giaanee, the wise, let go even of mukti, liberation, as a small thing. Aykankaar, the One Creator, is found through the True Guru, and the heart gives itself gladly to the sight of the Guru. Love is placed above any prize, even paradise.

A Question to Sit With

What would you love even if there were no reward for it at all?
