The Medicine That Cures the Long Illness

maaga-o jan Dhoor param gat paava-o.
I beg for the dust of the feet of the humble, that I may be blessed with the supreme status,
janam janam kee mail mitaava-o.
and the filth of countless lifetimes may be erased.
deeragh rog miteh har a-ukhaDh har nirmal raapai mangnaa. ||2||
The chronic diseases are cured by the medicine of the Lord's Name; I beg to be imbued with the Immaculate Lord. ||2||

Translation by Dr. Sant Singh Khalsa

In plain words

Let me sit low among the humble and learn from them; that is where the highest thing is found.

And the dirt of lifetime after lifetime is washed away.

The aches that never seem to go away are cured by the medicine of the Naam. I ask to be dyed in the pure One, the way cloth soaks up colour.

The oldest aches inside you can still be washed clean.
The deeper layer

'Deeragh rog' (the long, chronic illness) is cured by the medicine of the Name. 'Janam janam kee mail', the dirt gathered over lifetime after lifetime, is washed away, and the heart asks to take on the colour of the pure One.

A Question to Sit With

What is one heavy thing you would love to finally set down?
