Ears for the Pure Song

ਸ੍ਰਵਣੀ ਸੁਣਉ ਬਿਮਲ ਜਸੁ ਸੁਆਮੀ ॥

With my ears, I listen to the Pure Praises of my Lord and Master.

With the Support of the One Lord, I have abandoned corruption, sexuality and desire.

I humbly bow and fall at the feet of Your slaves; I do not hesitate to do good deeds. ||3||

Translation by Dr. Sant Singh Khalsa

In plain words

With my ears I listen for the clear, clean song of the One.

Leaning on that one Support, I let go of the grabbing wants that pull me off course.

I bow low at the feet of those who love You, and I do not hold back from doing good.

What you keep your ears open to slowly becomes what you become.
The deeper layer

Suniai, deep listening, comes first; the ear is trained on the pure praise. Leaning on the One, a person lets go of 'bikh kaami', the poisonous pulls of craving that drag one off course. Bowing to the servants of the One is honoured humility.

A Question to Sit With

What is worth listening for in the noise of a day?
