The Color That Never Fades

kaa-i-aa paatar parabh karnaihaaraa.
God is the Creator of the body-vessel.
lagee laag sant sangaaraa.
In the Society of the Saints, the dye is produced.
nirmal so-ay banee har banee man naam majeethai rangnaa. ||15||
Through the Word of the Lord's Bani, one's reputation becomes immaculate, and the mind is colored by the dye of the Naam, the Name of the Lord. ||15||

Translation by Dr. Sant Singh Khalsa

In plain words

The One shaped this body like a potter shaping a bowl.

In the Sangat, a deep colour soaks into that bowl.

Through the One's own words the heart turns clean and bright, and the mind takes on the color of the Name, a dye as fast and lasting as madder-red that never washes out.

Some colors wash out in one rain; the truest ones never do.
The deeper layer

The 'majeeth' (madder) dye is the fastest, most permanent color: the Name dyes the mind so deeply it cannot fade. The body as a shaped vessel and the reputation made 'nirmal' (immaculate) frame the transformation.

A Question to Sit With

What is something good in you that you hope never fades?
