Sikhism·Raag Maaroo·Shabad 140
Verse 14 of 21

The Formless Light in Which the World Blooms

nirankaar achhal adolo.
The Formless Lord is undeceivable and unchanging.
jot saroopee sabh jag ma-ulo.
He is the Embodiment of Light; through Him, the whole world blossoms forth.
He alone unites with Him, whom He unites with Himself. No one can attain the Lord by himself. ||14||

In plain words

The formless One cannot be fooled and cannot be shaken.

It is pure light, and in that light the whole world blossoms open like a flower.

And when you meet this One, it is because the One drew you close, not something you pulled off all by yourself.

Meeting the divine is a gift you open into, not a prize you win.
The deeper layer

The world blooms in the One's light, and meeting the One is a gift.

Nirankaar is the formless One. Jot saroopee sabh jag ma-ulo: the One is light, and the whole world blossoms in it. So milai jis aap milaa-ay: whoever meets the One was drawn close by the One. That meeting is grace, a gift received.

A Question to Sit With

When has something good come to you as a gift rather than a reward?
