Verse 21 of 21

Only You Know Your Own Vastness

tayree gat mit toohai jaaneh.
You alone know Your state and extent.
too aapay katheh tai aap vakaaneh.
You Yourself speak, and You Yourself describe it.
naanak daas daasan ko karee-ahu har bhaavai daasaa raakh sangaa. ||21||2||11||
Please make Nanak the slave of Your slaves, O Lord; as it pleases Your Will, please keep him with Your slaves. ||21||2||11||

Translation by Dr. Sant Singh Khalsa

In plain words

Only you know how great you are and how far you reach.

You are the one who speaks yourself and tells your own story.

Nanak says, here is my one wish: let me be a helper to your helpers, and keep me always with those who serve you.

The humblest, happiest place is among people who love what is good.
The deeper layer

Only the One knows how great the One is.

Tayree gat mit toohai jaaneh: You alone know Your state and Your extent. Naanak daas daasan ko, a servant of Your servants: a glad, humble place among the people who serve the One. Daasaa raakh sangaa: keep me with them.

A Question to Sit With

What good does being around kind people bring out in you?
