Become the dust of the feet of the humble fakeers, and consider yourself a traveller on this journey. O saintly dervish, you shall be approved in the Court of the Lord. ||1||

In plain words

You who serve Allah, the One beyond all reach,

let go of your thoughts of worldly affairs.

Be humble as the dust under the feet of the fakeers, and live as a traveler on this road; a dervish like that is accepted at the One's door.

The lighter you travel, the more welcome the road becomes.
The deeper layer

Travel light and humble, and the door opens. Every image here comes from Islam: Allah, the 'fakeer' (a poor holy wanderer), the 'musaafar' (traveler) and the 'darvays' (dervish), all honored with full respect. 'Ho-ay pai khaak' means becoming dust under holy feet: walking low and light.

A Question to Sit With

What is something you carry that you could set down to feel lighter?
