Fifth is to hold one's desires in restraint. These are the five most sublime daily prayers. ||9||

Translation by Dr. Sant Singh Khalsa

In plain words

First, love and praise the One.

Then a contented heart, then true humility, then giving freely to others.

And fifth, holding your wants gently in check; these five are the finest prayers you can offer all day long.

The prayers that count most are the ones you live, not just say.
The deeper layer

Five daily prayers (panj vakhat) become five inner virtues: praise, contentment, humility, charity and self-restraint. Worship becomes character.

A Question to Sit With

Which of these five would you most like to grow this year?
