pa-orhee.
Pauree:
manmukh kaal vi-aapdaa mohi maa-i-aa laagay.
The self-willed manmukhs are afflicted by death; they cling to Maya in emotional attachment.
khin meh maar pachhaarhsee bhaa-ay doojai thaagay.
In an instant, they are thrown to the ground and killed; in the love of duality, they are deluded.
fir vaylaa hath na aavee jam kaa dand laagay.
This opportunity shall not come into their hands again; they are beaten by the Messenger of Death with his stick.
tin jam dand na lag-ee jo har liv jaagay.
But Death's stick does not even strike those who remain awake and aware in the Love of the Lord.
sabh tayree tuDh chhadaavanee sabh tuDhai laagay. ||12||
All are Yours, and cling to You; only You can save them. ||12||
Translation by Dr. Sant Singh Khalsa
When a heart clings only to passing things, sudden loss can knock it flat.
The chance of this precious life should not slip past unnoticed and unused.
But fear cannot touch those who stay awake and aware in the Love of the One; all belong to You, and You alone keep them safe.
Stay awake in love, and fear finds nowhere to land.
The twelfth Pauree (||12||). Those who stay 'awake and aware in the Love of the Lord' are untouched by the fear of death. A heart that clings to passing things is easily knocked down; a heart awake in love holds steady. This precious life is a chance to treasure, and wakefulness is how you treasure it.
