All pains are relieved, O Nanak, when He bestows His Glance of Grace. ||1||

Translation by Dr. Sant Singh Khalsa

In plain words

When I look quietly inside myself, I find that my Beloved was with me all along.

Nanak says: every pain eases when that kind glance falls on me.

What you were searching for outside was inside the whole time.
The deeper layer

A Dakhanay shalok, and a turning point: the One searched for outside is discovered within. The Glance of Grace (nadar) is freely given, never earned — pain simply lifts in its light.

A Question to Sit With

Have you ever found something that was with you all along?
