ਘਰ ਘੁੰਮਣਵਾਣੀ ਭਾਈ ॥
ghar ghummanvaanee bhaa-ee.
Household affairs are whirlpools of entanglements, O Siblings of Destiny.
ਪਾਪ ਪਥਰ ਤਰਣੁ ਨ ਜਾਈ ॥
paap pathar taran na jaa-ee.
Sin is a stone which does not float.
ਭਉ ਬੇੜਾ ਜੀਉ ਚੜਾਊ ॥
bha-o bayrhaa jee-o charhaa-oo.
So let the Fear of God be the boat to carry your soul across.
ਕਹੁ ਨਾਨਕ ਦੇਵੈ ਕਾਹੂ ॥੪॥੨॥
kaho naanak dayvai kaahoo. ||4||2||
Says Nanak, rare are those who are blessed with this Boat. ||4||2||

The rush of daily life can spin like a whirlpool, pulling every which way.
Heavy loads of wrongdoing sink like stones; they cannot carry you across.
So let awe, deep and loving wonder at the One, be the boat that carries the heart safely over.
Nanak says: few are given this boat.
Wonder is a boat; worry is a stone. Choose what you carry.
Bhau is reverent awe, the wonder that steadies you. Paap, wrongdoing, is the heavy load that sinks the heart like a stone. The whirlpool of household affairs is crossed not by escaping life but by carrying awe through it.
