Maaroo, First Mehl, First House:
ਕਰਣੀ ਕਾਗਦੁ ਮਨੁ ਮਸਵਾਣੀ ਬੁਰਾ ਭਲਾ ਦੁਇ ਲੇਖ ਪਏ ॥
karnee kaagad man masvaanee buraa bhalaa du-ay laykh pa-ay.
Actions are the paper, and the mind is the ink; good and bad are both recorded upon it.
ਜਿਉ ਜਿਉ ਕਿਰਤੁ ਚਲਾਏ ਤਿਉ ਚਲੀਐ ਤਉ ਗੁਣ ਨਾਹੀ ਅੰਤੁ ਹਰੇ ॥੧॥
ji-o ji-o kirat chalaa-ay ti-o chalee-ai ta-o gun naahee ant haray. ||1||
As their past actions drive them, so are mortals driven. There is no end to Your Glorious Virtues, Lord. ||1||

What I do is like paper, and my mind is like the ink; every choice, kind or unkind, leaves its mark.
The way I have acted before nudges the way I act now, and habits become a current I move along.
And through it all, the good in the One never runs out; its beauty has no edge.
Your choices become the current you swim in, so choose them kindly.
Karnee (actions) are written in the ink of the mind, shaping the kirat (momentum of past deeds) that carries us. Beside that stands the boundless gun, the endless virtues of the One. Habit has power, and so does grace.
