The Ocean of Peace

sukh saagar amrit har naa-o.
The Ambrosial Name of the Lord is the ocean of peace.
mangat jan jaachai har dayh pasaa-o.
The beggar begs for it; O Lord, please bless him, in Your kindness.
har sat sat sadaa har sat har sat mayrai man bhaavai jee-o. ||2||
True, True is the Lord; the Lord is forever True; the True Lord is pleasing to my mind. ||2||

Translation by Dr. Sant Singh Khalsa

In plain words

The Naam is nectar, an ocean of peace.

Your small one asks: please give me this gift. The One is True, True forever - and the True One is what my heart loves.

Peace is an ocean you can ask to drink from.
The deeper layer

The Name is an ocean of peace, and the heart asks for it as a gift.

Sukh saagar amrit har naa-o — the One's Name is nectar, an ocean of peace. Amrit means sweet nectar that gives life.

Mangat jan jaachai — the humble one asks, like someone holding out their hands. "Please give me this, in Your kindness."

The last line repeats one word, sat, again and again. It means true, real. The One is true, always true. That is exactly why the heart loves the One. Think of a friend who is always honest with you. You trust them more than anyone. The One is real like that, forever.

A Question to Sit With

What makes you feel a deep, settled peace?
