Translation by Dr. Sant Singh Khalsa

In plain words

You are in every place; everyone belongs to You.

Whatever You do comes to be. Nanak says: Your small servant sings Your praise, and when it pleases You, You welcome it.

You belong to the One who is in every place.
The deeper layer

The One is everywhere, and everyone belongs to the One.

Too sarbatar tayraa sabh ko-ee — You are in every place, and all are Yours. Jo too karahi so-ee parabh ho-ee — whatever You do, that is what happens. This is hukam, the will of the One, at work in everything.

Then Nanak calls himself a humble servant who sings the One's praise. Har bhaavai har thaa-ay paavai — when it pleases the One, the One welcomes it.

Think of a small child giving a parent a drawing. It may be simple, but the parent smiles and puts it on the fridge. Nanak signs his name in this last verse. His song ends as a small gift, held out with love.

A Question to Sit With
