Sikhism·Raag Maaroo·Shabad 26
Verse 4 of 5

Even the Judge Bows

ਰਾਜਸੁ ਸਾਤਕੁ ਤਾਮਸੁ ਡਰਪਹਿ ਕੇਤੇ ਰੂਪ ਉਪਾਇਆ ॥
raajas saatak taamas darpahi kaytay roop upaa-i-aa.
Those who embody the energies of sattva-white light, raajas-red passion, and taamas-black darkness, abide in the Fear of God, along with the many created forms.
ਛਲ ਬਪੁਰੀ ਇਹ ਕਉਲਾ ਡਰਪੈ ਅਤਿ ਡਰਪੈ ਧਰਮ ਰਾਇਆ ॥੩॥
chhal bapuree ih ka-ulaa darpai at darpai Dharam raa-i-aa. ||3||
This miserable deceiver Maya abides in the Fear of God; the Righteous Judge of Dharma is utterly afraid of Him as well. ||3||

In plain words

The three moods of nature - its calm, its fire, its heaviness - all move in awe, and so do the countless forms He made.

Even change itself, and the principle that weighs right and wrong, stand in awe before Him.

Even the rules that weigh right and wrong bow before the One.
The deeper layer

Even the powers that run the world bow before the One.

Old Indian thought spoke of three moods that run through all of nature. One is calm and clear. One is fiery and busy. One is heavy and slow. The verse says all three live in awe of the One, along with every form the One has made.

Then it names Maya, the tricky shine of things that do not last. Even Maya bows. And so does Dharam Raa-ay, the one who weighs right and wrong. Even the weigher of right and wrong stands in awe.

Think of the referee in a big game. Everyone watches the ref. But the ref is following the rulebook too. There is always something bigger than the one who seems in charge.

Here, the biggest thing of all is the One.
