Verse 3 of 5

Tangled in the Beautiful Passing Things

putar kaltar garih daykh pasaaraa is hee meh urjhaa-ay.
Gazing upon children, spouse, household and possessions, one is entangled in these.
Tasting the wine of Maya, one is intoxicated, and never sings of the Lord, Har, Har. ||2||

In plain words

Looking around at family, home, and all we gather, it is easy to get tangled up in it.

Tasting the sweetness of the passing world, we can get dizzy and forget to sing.

Good things can still tangle us if we forget what is underneath them.
The deeper layer

Children, home, and possessions can tangle the heart; the "wine" of the passing world (maa-i-aa mad) makes one dizzy, a distraction that pulls the song away.

A Question to Sit With

What good things sometimes distract you from what matters most?
