Untouched, Like Sun and Fire

ਸੂਰੁ ਮੁਕਤਾ ਸਸੀ ਮੁਕਤਾ ਬ੍ਰਹਮ ਗਿਆਨੀ ਅਲਿਪਾਇ ॥
soor muktaa sasee muktaa barahm gi-aanee alipaa-ay.
The sun is liberated, and the moon is liberated; the God-realized being is pure and untouched.
ਸੁਭਾਵਤ ਜੈਸੇ ਬੈਸੰਤਰ ਅਲਿਪਤ ਸਦਾ ਨਿਰਮਲਾਇ ॥੪॥
subhaavat jaisay baisantar alipat sadaa niramlaa-ay. ||4||
His inner nature is like that of fire, untouched and forever immaculate. ||4||

In plain words

The sun is free, and so is the moon; the one awake to the One stays clear and untouched.

Like fire that stays pure no matter what it burns, such a heart stays bright and clean.

A heart awake to the One stays clear and untouched, like fire that never gets dirty.
The deeper layer

A heart awake to the One stays clean, like the sun, the moon and fire.

The sun and moon are muktaa, free. They shine on everything and are never stained by it. The barahm gi-aanee, a person who truly knows the One, is like that. They are alipaa-ay, untouched. Fire is the same. It burns whatever it touches, yet the flame itself stays bright and clean.

Think of sunlight shining on a muddy puddle. The puddle is dirty, but the light never is. Such a person lives in the world and stays pure inside.

A Question to Sit With

What helps you stay clear and yourself, even in a messy situation?
