Pride Set Down

ਅਵਿਗਤ ਸਿਉ ਮਾਨਿਆ ਮਾਨੋ ॥
avigat si-o maani-aa maano.
One whose mind is satisfied believing in the imperishable Lord God,
ਗੁਰਮੁਖਿ ਤਤੁ ਗਿਆਨੋ ॥
gurmukh tat gi-aano.
becomes Gurmukh and attains the essence of spiritual wisdom.
ਪੇਖਤ ਸਗਲ ਧਿਆਨੋ ॥
paykhat sagal Dhi-aano.
He sees all in his meditation.
ਤਜਿਓ ਮਨ ਤੇ ਅਭਿਮਾਨੋ ॥੨॥
taji-o man tay abhimaano. ||2||
He banishes egotistical pride from his mind. ||2||

In plain words

When the mind rests, trusting the One who never fades, deep understanding opens.

Then, everywhere you look you sense the One — and the puffed-up pride simply falls away.

When the mind rests, pride quietly falls away.
The deeper layer

When the mind trusts the One, pride falls away.

Avigat si-o maani-aa maano — the mind rests, trusting the avigat, the One who never fades. Gurmukh tat gi-aano — such a person becomes gurmukh, someone facing the Guru. They find the heart of real understanding.

Paykhat sagal dhi-aano — they see the One in everything. Taji-o man tay abhimaano — they let go of abhimaan, puffed-up pride. Think of a balloon slowly letting out its air. Nobody pops it. The pride just quietly goes.

A Question to Sit With

What helps your mind rest?
