In plain words

There is only One. And the One is found by the True Guru's grace — a gift that is always here, waiting for an open heart.

Set down all your clever schemes; meet the holy people, and let go of your pride.

Everything else passes; let your tongue keep the sweet Naam, Raam, Raam, close.

Set down clever tricks and keep the sweet Naam close.
The deeper layer

Set down clever tricks and pride, and let your tongue keep the Naam.

Chhod sagal si-aanpaa — let go of all your cleverness. Mil saadh ti-aag gumaan — meet the holy people and drop your pride. Think of a kid who keeps a speech ready for every situation. It is tiring to be clever all the time.

Avar sabh kichh mithi-aa — everything else passes away. Rasnaa raam raam vakhaan — with your tongue, say Raam, Raam. Simple words, said with love, last longer than any clever plan.

A Question to Sit With

What clever act could you drop to be more yourself?
