O my mind, listen with your ears to the Naam.
The mistakes of lifetime after lifetime wash away. Then what is left to fear, even from death?
Listen to the Naam, and fear falls away.
Listen to the Naam, and fear falls away.
This is the rahaa-o, the "pause" line at the centre of the shabad. Mayray man karan sun har naam — my mind, let your ears hear the Naam. Karan means ears. Listening is the first step.
Miteh agh tayray janam janam kay — the mistakes of many lifetimes are wiped away. Kavan bapuro jaam — then what can death's messenger do? Think of a dark room when the light comes on. The shadows you worried about are gone. Death becomes nothing to dread.
