Then We Forget

vichahu garbhai nikal aa-i-aa.
Then, one comes out from within the womb,
khasam visaar dunee chit laa-i-aa.
and forgetting his Lord and Master, he attaches his consciousness to the world.

He comes and goes, and wanders in reincarnation; he cannot remain anywhere. ||3||

In plain words

Then I was born into the wide world, and, like all of us, I got busy and forgot the One who had held me.

So I drift and search, restless, never quite settling — until I remember again.

We forget the One who held us, until we remember again.
The deeper layer

Once we are born, we get busy and forget the One who held us.

Vichahu garbhai nikal aa-i-aa: then one comes out of the womb. Khasam visaar dunee chit laa-i-aa: forgetting the Master, the mind gets stuck on the world.

So the person comes and goes, and wanders from life to life. They cannot settle anywhere. Think of a phone with a hundred apps sending alerts. You keep jumping from one to the next and never finish anything.

This is not meant to scare anyone. It describes what happens to all of us. We drift and search, restless, until we remember the One again.

A Question to Sit With

What helps you remember what matters when you get busy?
