Pierced Through with Love

ਅਨਹਤਿ ਲਾਲਾ ਬੇਧਿਆ ਪ੍ਰਭ ਹੇਤਿ ਪਿਆਰੀ ॥
anhat laalaa bayDhi-aa parabh hayt pi-aaree.
His slave remains continually pierced through with love and affection for God.
ਬਿਨੁ ਸਾਚੇ ਜੀਉ ਜਲਿ ਬਲਉ ਝੂਠੇ ਵੇਕਾਰੀ ॥
bin saachay jee-o jal bala-o jhoothay vaykaaree.
Without the True Lord, the soul of the false, corrupt person is burnt to ashes.

Abandoning all evil actions, he crosses over in the boat of Truth. ||7||

Translation by Dr. Sant Singh Khalsa

In plain words

Something in me is caught by love for the One: a steady thread that runs right through my heart.

Away from what is true, the heart feels cold and empty. So I set down the things that pull me off course, and cross over safely in the boat of Truth.

A heart threaded with love finds its way across.
The deeper layer

Anhat bedhiaa, continually pierced through, describes prem, love. Without the True One, a life of falsehood burns itself out and turns cold and empty. Baad kaaraa chhodee-aa: setting down harmful action, crossing in the boat of Truth.

A Question to Sit With

What is something you love so steadily it runs right through you?
