Setting Down Greed, Finding a Home

jinee naam visaari-aa tinaa tha-ur na thaa-o.
Those who have forgotten the Naam have no home, no place of rest.
laalai laalach ti-aagi-aa paa-i-aa har naa-o.
The Lord's slave renounces greed and attachment, and obtains the Lord's Name.
too bakhsahi taa mayl laihi naanak bal jaa-o. ||8||4||
If You forgive him, Lord, then He is united with You; Nanak is a sacrifice. ||8||4||

Translation by Dr. Sant Singh Khalsa

In plain words

Forgetting the Name can leave a person restless, with nowhere that feels like home.

But when I loosen my grip on wanting more, the Name comes into my hands. When You forgive, You gather me close, and Nanak says: my whole heart is Yours in thanks.

Loosen your grip on wanting more, and a true home opens.
The deeper layer

Those who forget the Naam have no thaur, no place of rest. Laalai laalach tiaagiaa: renouncing greed brings the Naam. Tu bakhsahi ta mel laihi: union by grace; bal jaao is grateful devotion.

A Question to Sit With

What is one thing you could hold a little more loosely?
