A Divided Heart Keeps Wandering

ੴ ਸਤਿਗੁਰ ਪ੍ਰਸਾਦਿ ॥

The double-minded person comes and goes, and has numerous friends.

The soul-bride is separated from her Lord, and she has no place of rest; how can she be comforted? ||1||

In plain words

There is only One. And the One is found by the True Guru's grace — a gift that is always here, waiting for an open heart.

When my heart is split in two, I flit here and there, making friend after friend, never quite landing.

A heart that feels far from what it loves cannot find a place to rest. So I turn back toward the One who feels like home.

A split heart keeps searching outside for what only lives at home.
The deeper layer

A divided heart keeps wandering and cannot find rest.

This Kaafee opens with the dummnee — the double-minded, restless heart that keeps coming and going (aava-o vanja-o). Its many friendships never satisfy because they are made from divided attention. The soul that feels vaadhee (apart) longs for a settled home. A wandering heart can always turn around.

A Question to Sit With

When do you feel scattered, and what helps you feel gathered again?
