The One Who Plants the Love Also Tends It

aapay maylay aap milaa-ay.
He Himself unites in His Union.
aapnaa pi-aar aapay laa-ay.
He Himself inspires us with His Love.
paraym kee saar so-ee jaanai jis no nadar tumaaree jee-o. ||1|| rahaa-o.
He alone appreciates the value of Your Love, upon whom You shower Your Grace, O Lord. ||1||Pause||

Translation by Dr. Sant Singh Khalsa

In plain words

The One brings us close, and the One holds us there.

The One plants this love in us. Only the one You look on with grace knows how precious Your love is.

Even the love you feel for the One is a gift the One planted in you.
The deeper layer

Aapay maylay aap milaa-ay — the One both unites and does the uniting; aapnaa pi-aar aapay laa-ay — even the love we feel is placed in us by the One. And only the heart touched by nadar, grace, appreciates the saar, the true value, of that love. Nothing here is self-made; it is all gift, received.

A Question to Sit With

Where do you think your love for the people and things you cherish comes from?
