Sikhism·Raag Maaroo·Shabad 73
Verse 3 of 11

The Yogi Is the One Who Sees Clearly

ਦਿਬ ਦ੍ਰਿਸਟਿ ਜਾਗੈ ਭਰਮੁ ਚੁਕਾਏ ॥
dib darisat jaagai bharam chukaa-ay.
One whose spiritual vision is awakened - his doubt is driven out.
ਗੁਰ ਪਰਸਾਦਿ ਪਰਮ ਪਦੁ ਪਾਏ ॥
gur parsaad param pad paa-ay.
By Guru's Grace, he obtains the supreme status.
ਸੋ ਜੋਗੀ ਇਹ ਜੁਗਤਿ ਪਛਾਣੈ ਗੁਰ ਕੈ ਸਬਦਿ ਬੀਚਾਰੀ ਜੀਉ ॥੨॥
so jogee ih jugat pachhaanai gur kai sabad beechaaree jee-o. ||2||
He alone is a Yogi, who understands this way, and contemplates the Word of the Guru's Shabad. ||2||

In plain words

When your inner eye wakes up, worry and doubt quietly fall away.

By the Guru's grace you reach the highest place. A yogi is anyone who understands this way and takes the Guru's Word to heart.

A yogi is anyone who sees clearly and takes the Guru's Word to heart.
The deeper layer

Dib drisat jaagai — divine sight awakens, and bharam, doubt, is cleared. By gur parsaad, grace, one reaches param pad, the highest state. Then the redefinition: so jogee — a yogi is known by ih jugat pachhaanai, understanding this way, through gur kai sabad beechaaree, reflecting on the Guru's Word. Yoga is turned inward, from technique to clear seeing.

A Question to Sit With

What is the difference between knowing a lot of tricks and understanding something?
