Verse 6 of 9

Keep in View Where You Are Headed

ਜਹਾ ਜਾਣਾ ਸੋ ਥਾਨੁ ਵਿਸਾਰਿਓ ਇਕ ਨਿਮਖ ਨਹੀ ਮਨੁ ਲਾਇਓ ॥੫॥
jahaa jaanaa so thaan visaar-i-o ik nimakh nahee man laa-i-o. ||5||
You have forgotten that place where you must go; you have not attached your mind to the Lord, even for an instant. ||5||

Translation by Dr. Sant Singh Khalsa

In plain words

We each have a home we are gently traveling toward. It helps to keep it in view.

Even a moment of resting the mind on the One makes the whole journey lighter and brighter.

Keeping your destination in view makes the whole journey lighter.
The deeper layer

Keep in mind where you are headed.

Jahaa jaanaa so thaan visaar-i-o — you have forgotten the place where you must go. Every life is a journey toward home. This is not meant to frighten us. It helps us stay pointed the right way.

Think of a hiker who keeps the mountain top in view. The steps feel steadier. The verse adds that the mind has not rested on the One ik nimakh, even for an instant. Even one such moment makes the whole walk lighter.

A Question to Sit With

When you know where you are headed, how does it change the way you travel there?
